“Just as a pibal (which means ‘baby eel’), undulating and playing with the flow, ‘Pibal’ is an answer to the new urban ergonomics.” (Philippe Starck)

On the initiative of the city of Bordeaux, one of Europe’s most popular bicycle cities, top designer Philippe Starck designed the ‘Pibal’, a draft of what should be the perfect urban bicycle, produced by Peugeot. Starck got inspired by hundreds of ‘Bordelais’ (that’s how the French call the citizens of the city of Bordeaux) thanks to an online survey deployed by the city of Bordeaux. Designer Philippe Starck always has been a hands-on person and that’s why not so much longer the prototype of the ‘Pibal’ was presented by Philippe Starck and the proud major of the city of Bordeaux Alain Juppé (in the middle of the picture above). 300 of these futuristic babies will be delivered tot the city of Bordeaux coming june and loaned for free to the citizen’s of Bordeaux thanks to ‘Maison du vélo’. ”Just as a pibale, undulating and playing with the flow, ‘Pibal’ is an answer to the new urban ergonomics, thanks to a lateral translation which allow oneself to pedal long distances, to scoot in pedestrian areas and to walk next to it carrying a child or any other load on its platform”, dixit designer Philippe Starck. www.starck.com
