The new Audi A5 Coupé certainly eyes more athletic and elegant and with the more accentuated lines and the powerdome on the hood it seduces even more than its more monolithic counterpart from 2007, but it retains its pure aesthetic genes. Just like the first generation, the long hood and wheelbase, the short overhangs and tout back end emphasize the sporting character of this Audi.
Besides the LED rear lights the lower and wider singleframe radiator grille and the rearview mirrors give away the new generation. The mirrors are now placed on the doors instead of the window angle and this enhances the sporting look.
Compared with its predecessor, this midsize coupé built on A4 basis is 5 centimeters longer which reflects itself in the interior. There is more room in the rear, and the horizontal architecture of the dashboard enhances the feeling of spaciousness. With a volume of 465 liters, the boot offers 10 liters more, which makes the A5 a champion in its class. The interior has been largely taken over from the latest A4, which had its face lift last year, and therefore holds few surprises.
The noble (soft touch) materials in various colors and the beautiful metal look inserts create a cozy atmosphere just as the high level aeroacoustics and the silent but powerful 2.0 TDI with 190 HP. In our test car, this unit was mated to the excellent seven speed S tronic. The new A5 Coupé is available with five engines – two TFSI petrol engines and three TDI’s- which are traditionally more powerful and frugal than their predecessors.
Eye catcher with the new A5 Coupé is the totally new developed suspension and the electromechanical steering assistance which strike an impressive balance between comfort and superb agility. The new A5 will with its excellent handling and precise and direct steering steal many hearts of those enthusiasts who are tempted by a dynamic driving style.
Regretfully, some options which other makes offer as standard equipment come at an extra, like electronically adjustable front seats for instance. But the standard equipment is now more comprehensive than the previous model with amongst others Xenon headlights, LED cabin lighting, 7 inch touchscreen with MMI and Radio Plus, Bluetooth and a three spoke multifunctional steering wheel and last but not least a host of innovative infotainment functions and driving assist systems.
