Everyone who bothers about a sagging or weakening facial skin, has probably considered having a facelift. But it is the surgery involved which puts many off to take the step. For those who are afraid to take the plunge or who think that a full facelift is still too early, the VSoft PDO thread facelift is an ideal, swift and less invasive option.

V Soft threads are polidioxanone threads, in medical jargon abbreviated as PDO threads. It absorbs completely into the skin tissue and has been used for over 30 years as supportive material in several areas of classic surgery. Everybody knows them as the typical, dark grey threads used when making stitchings in surgery. These fully absorbing PDO threads stimulate the generation of collagene which will in time take over the supportive role of the threads. These threads are very useful for the lifting of eyebrows, cheeks, the face, neck and décolleté and are ideal to restore the facial shape and contours. A facelift using VSoft threads is less invasive than surgical methods and offers better results than laser treatments.
Types of threads
V Soft PDO threads exist in three versions: slick, non profiled threads or mono’s, spiral shaped threads or screws, and threads with minute hooks or barbs, dubbed after barbed wire.
With the mono’s, a grid is woven which supports the skin, which triggers the generation of collagene. The screws have a lifting effect because the spiral thread acts like a spring and wants to regain its original shape.
The barbs are true lifting threads, as they anchor themselves with their minute hooks into the skin and lift it up. When the youthful V shape of the face has has inverted itself due to the sagging skin, the barbs restore the original V shape.
During your lunch hour…
As the treatment produces very little side effects, if any, it can even be done during your lunch break. Because the treatment using mono’s is virtually painless, it can be executed without a local anesthetic or narcosis. If you wish, an anesthetic cream can be applied. The use of spirals or barbs is somewhat more invasive and therefore a local anesthetic is used. In this case, on the places where the barb threads enter the skin, an anesthetic is injected. The skin part between the two entry spots is locally anaesthetized with a cream. Then the PDO threads are brought one by one under the skin using a thin injection needle. Which threads are used and how many depends of course on where the threads are placed and the quality of the skin. When the tread is put into place, the needle is removed, so only the thread is remaining in the skin.
As our face could use a lift, the dermatologist on duty opted for barb. On both sides of our face, three barb wires were introduced in the shape of a triangle. Additionally, a good 20 mono’s were introduced to stimulate the generation of collagene. “This will treat the very small and superficial wrinkles”, the dermatologist explained to us. Twenty minutes later, taking some ten minutes per cheek, including the narcosis, the treatment was finished. We noticed immediately that the small wrinkles on our cheeks had disappeared and that the previously hamster shaped cheeks were now pulled up again. The threads are completely invisible and will be absorbed fully by your body after six months. In this period, a collagene tissue has grown around the threads. This “internal harness” strengthens the skin and triggers a lifting effect. Immediately after the treatment, the results are already visible. When some light swelling sets in, it can take a few days before the positive effects are fully noticeable however. The treated skin area can also remain somewhat more sensitive for a couple of days. This we noticed too.
On the places where the three treads were introduced into our skin three very small blue spots were visible. Especially when applying a day or night cream, we felt that the skin was somewhat more sensitive, like when rubbing over a concussion or blue spot, but we did not feel any pulling pains or itching. Even sleeping or resting on the treated cheek produced no discomfort.
More beautiful with time…
After six weeks, the result is optimal. “Your body needs this period to grow the collagene around the PDO threads”, the dermatologist explains us. This is also the moment for a checkup. When deemed necessary and/or desirable on medical grounds, more threads can then be placed. Because the body itself produces the collagene around the threads, the results of the treatment are more permanent. The ageing of the skin tissue continues however, and new lines and wrinkles can appear. This ageing process can vary from one patient to another and therefore the lasting effects of the treatment are also different. But notwithstanding this, the Vsoft solution is a simple and effective method to revitalise and refresh your skin.
For inserting PDO threads in your skin tissue, you have to be over 25.
Patients using blood thinning medication run a higher risk of experiencing hemorrhages. This does not influence the end result but it hardly improves the way you look in the first week after the intervention.
When you received already injections with permanent filters or threads, the use of PDO threads is not for you, due to the high risk of infections. Pregnant women are also well advised to postpone the treatment.
Vsoft in brief
The treatment can be executed by any doctor who has received specific training and knows how to prevent any complications and/or treat them if they should occur.
The treatment is performed in a properly equipped room, and takes between thirty to sixty minutes. The final result is that wrinkles are softened and the skin is lifted. Depending on the quality of the skin tissue and the number of threads used this effect will last between twelve and eighteen months.
A touch up after nine months will lengthen the positive effects of the treatment. The skin of your patient will be younger, fresher and fuller.
