The Neocure is the newest it-device for skin tightening. It uses High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), the most revolutionary technology for firming the skin tissue without surgical intervention which one FEELS and SEES working.
Just imagine a new skin firming treatment based on the HIFU ultherapy device that drills small holes in the skin tissue at a depth from 1,5 to 4,5 millimeters, around which the skin starts producing collagene tissue. Indeed, extra collagene tissue, which makes the skin firmer.
High-intensity focused ultrasound is the result of the evolution of ultrasound from a simple diagnostic procedure (e.g. to check on a foetus in case of pregnancy) to a therapeutic modality with a broader potential. Ultrasound has long been an intriguing medical modality because of its noninvasive nature, low cost, and relatively low rate of complications.
Sound is transmitted by mechanical vibrations, ultrasound technology utilizes vibrations that are outside of the range of human hearing. High-intensity focused ultrasound, in comparison to typical ultrasound, uses lower frequencies and higher energy levels by several orders of magnitude. As compared to normal ultrasound, where acoustic waves are absorbed and deflected through tissue, HIFU can target a specific volume (on the order of millimeters) within the body cavity without harming surrounding tissues. A major advantage is that the energy is non ionizing and can theoretically be repeated an unlimited number of times.
Thirty minutes before the start of the treatment, we are already fully prepared at the request of the dermatologist who performs the treatment. He applies first a Receptura cream, which is anesthetic to make the treatment more comfortable. One hour before the treatment we were also advised to take a Ibuprofen tablet. We ask ourselves: is the treatment so painful?
“Well”, answers Christophe Leys, dermatologist at the Medical Skincare in Sint-Truiden, “because we will make small bruises in the skin, the treatment without the prior use of an anasthetic cream would be rather painful. But now, you shouldn’t feel anything, normally.” This puts us at ease… Fifteen minutes later, dokter Leys starts off. He moves the laser head – which emits a small beep at every impulse – round our neck.
The laser impulses are best described as small pinches, and every now and then it is quite painful, but fortunately lasting only an instant. We notice than some pulses generate an effect in our head comparable to grinding teeth or biting on something surprisingly hard. We further notice a pleasant warming of our skin. About one half hour later, Dr. Leys has treated our neck and lower chin with 300 lines with 25 pulses each. With other words, he treated a complete area. “High-intensity focused ultrasounds work via two major underlying mechanisms, the first of which is hyperthermia. Concentrated energy causes temperatures to exceed the upper limit of protein denaturation (43° C), and can reach as high as 80°C, causing instant coagulate necrosis of targeted cells without damaging the surrounding areas. In other words: the laser heats op the tissue to a temperature in between 43°C and 80°C. The second major mechanism is cavitation formation. At higher energy levels, alternating compression and expansion of sound waves create gas cavities that implode and subsequently cause mechanical damage tot the target tissues (eg. adipose) through the release of high levels of pressure and heat in the microenvironment. In other words we can use this machine that attacks and empties fat cells also to reduce body fat on other zones.”
Straight after the treatment our skin is red but it looks great. It looks tighter. An effect we think is merely due to the circulation stimulating massage with the laser head. We also feel a kind of neck pain something between stiffness and the feeling you get when you have a bruise. A feeling that will last for about two weeks after the treatment. But we also see AND feel that our skin is thighter. We are looking forward to our second treatment. “For tightening the neck two sessions are enough”, explains doctor Leys. “For a fat reducing effect one needs at least x sessions.”
Between 300 and 500 euro to firm and strengthen the neck and cheek line.
