If you want to get thrills in life you have to experience even what at first glance makes you feel unconfortable. Residences whith loads of kids that is in our case. Never expected that a stay at Holiday Suites in Westende surrounded by twenty families with kids would be such big fun!
It is almost 9 pm when we arrive at Holiday Suites in Westende. Though we left home quite early, the combination of the promise of a sunny weekend at the Belgian coast and road works on the E40 around Affligem and in Westende made us cope with a three hour drive. That’s almost double of the time we were expecting it would take us.
At our arrival we enter the given code in the numeric keypad and the barrier of the parking opens. Though a lot of cars are already parked around the premises we still find many spaces to choose from. Even near the entrances. Thats’s handy to unload our luggage!
Even the corridors are cosy and playful @Holiday Suites
As Holiday Suites works with a digital check-in and most of the time no one is present at the front desk we don’t bother taking the front entrance. We enter our personal code at the back entrance and explore the floors and corridors looking for our appartment. Number 124 that is. A magnificent corner appartment for 5 persons on the first floor. WOW, really WOW.
Entering the spacious appartment with windows looking out in two directions we are surprised by the comfort. A long wooden table for at least six persons. A huge sofa in front of the TV. A fully equiped kitchen with refrigerator, small freezer, oven, cooking plates, a water boiler and, yes, even a dishwasher. Nice, we think. Very nice… but how will we operate the latter as we didn’t bring any dishwashing tablets? A quick search in the numerous cupboards results in finding a small box containing two dishwashing tablets, a small bottle of dishwashing liquid and dishcloths. Mmmmh, does Holiday Suites really think of everything?
Oh yes, they do! As we feel hungry we decide to explore the appartment later on. First we head downstairs to the chip shop that was supposed to close at 9 pm according to our program but we are lucky and the friterie is still open. It is one of the novelties at Holiday Suites Westende to have a chip shop on the premises itself just outside the main entrance. Very convenient if you arrive late at night with a hungry husband and a bunch of kids.
After having enjoyed French fries, a curry sausage, Bicky burger, kipcorn, turkey skewer and chicken fingers at one of the wooden picknicktabels outside we head back to our appartment to explore it further on. One of the biggest advantages at Holiday Suites is that they try to make it their guests as comfortable as possible. So you don’t need to bring bed sheets, cushion covers or towels. Holiday Suites puts everyting at your disposal included in the price. Should you need big bath towels to go to the beach you bring them best from home as for these you will be charged extra: 5 euro pp. Other things that you get charged for: domestic animals 10 euro per night, or a baby kit at 25 euro per stay including a baby bed (without sheets) and a baby chair.
For our stay the kids choose the bunk bed, while we go for the kingsize bedroom giving at the balcony. All the rooms are nicely decorated with some cosy artprints on the walls and equipped with USB sockets. Though the beds are smaller than we are used to, we sleep very well.
After having breakfast in the morning the kids enjoy first some activities on the playing grounds around the appartments.
Then we decide to go for a walk to the seaside. It’s just a ten minute walk before we arrive in the dunes. We pass some fascinating artdeco buildings and a playing ground where the kids decide to play some football first. During the day we don’t lack inspiration for activities. From the walk through the dunes, we continue onto the beach, rent a go-cart and skelter for an hour, head of on foot to a nearby supermarket ‘Okay’ (Lombardsijde, Nieuwpoortlaan 69), jump on the tram, and head back to the appartment.
During the day we don’t lack inspiration for activities.
Westende – between Middelkerke and Nieuwpoort – is known as the most child-friendly seaside resort at the Belgian coast. More than 9 kilometers of long sandy beaches make Westende a perfect destination for families who opt for a beach holiday.
Social media afficionadi can take a map and explore an Instagram route which takes you through Middelkerke. Beautiful pictures guaranteed. And for the comic strip fans there even is a Jommekeroute. For the Jommekeroute (20 km along locations from the comic strip ‘Missie Middelkerke’) visit the website of the comic strip township ‘Middelkerke’: visit.middelkerke.be

To relax we suggest the nearby and cosy beachbar De Kwinte
For children there are plenty more of activities such as go-carts, biking, skateboarding, minigolf and playgrounds. Plopsaland and the Panne are nearby trips that can easily be reached by coastal tram. Holiday Suites offers discounts for many of those activities, just ask which activities or restaurants the accomodation recommends. Don’t feel like making en excursion? Don’t worry the residence of Holiday Suites itself has a climbing wall and some indoor activities as table football. Apart from that the kids can enjoy the outdoor playground and if the are lucky meet up with Suity, the mascot of Holday Suites.
