The times when you could only deliver a great picture with a bulky DLSR are long gone. Today’s smartphones are highly performant and can deliver (under most circumstances) excellent picture quality (or video quality for that matter) with a thing that fits neatly into your pocket, is always at hand (so you don’t miss any great shots) and with which you can share your masterpieces in the blink of an eye.
The iPhone Photography Awards (IPPA) are a direct extension of that philosophy. They challenge the masses (the word ‘masses’ is used here in the most positive way) to showcase their photographic talent while using their iPhone as their sole companion. The results as you can see here are nothing short than amazing.
The 2013 competition is already finished but you can start submitting your pictures for the 7th Annual Awards for which the call for entries will close on March 31 2014. All photographers compete for the 3 IPPAWARDS Photographers of the Year. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. All images must be taken with an iPhone or an iPod. The photos should not be altered in Photoshop or any desktop image processing program. The use of any iPhone Apps is permissible. In some cases the judging peeps of IPPA may ask the original image to verify that it’s taken with an iPhone, iPad or iPod. And as with any competition there are some nice prizes to win too such as iPad Minis (for the absolute champs), …. All competition guidelines and rules on the IPPA site. Go for it !
