If you should visit NYC somewhere between now and mid-february 2015, you should definitely check out the high-heel expo ‘Killer Heels, The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe’. On display are 178 shoes from mid-17th century Italian chopines to more current couture footwear like the Vivienne Westwood purple ‘Gillie’ platforms.

The collection presented at the expo is a mix of high and low styles: towering red boots from Christian Louboutin to sophisticated Dior 60’s slippers, you can enjoy it all. The highest heel in the exhibit, the 8-inch black booty platform stilettos decked out with gold men statues, were worn by Lady Gaga two years ago and made by United Nude.

Presented alongside the objects in the exhibition are six specially commissioned short films inspired by high heels. The filmmakers are Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh, Zach Gold, Steven Klein, Nick Knight, Marilyn Minter, and Rashaad Newsome. ‘Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe’ is organized by Lisa Small, Curator of Exhibitions, Brooklyn Museum. A fully illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
