You can use books for what they’re meant for, reading. However, nowadays we all scroll our tablets and smartphones and paper books kinda have lost their purpose (although still a lot of people like the tactile and olfactory side of paperbacks). But hey, then you have these great artists like Los Angeles-based artist Mike Stilkey that take books and transform their purpose as a reading medium into a canvas painting.
The books Mike Stillkey uses, were brought back from the library’s discarded trash, and used as canvases for his paintings. He works with inks, colored pencils, paint and lacquer to create portraits of playful animals and humans in exaggerated expressions. We don’t know what you think about this but we think the idea is absolutely amazing. Check out more of his work at: www.mikestilkey.com
