The intricate and inky ‘Wonderlands’ of artist and illustrator Johanna Basford are just plain amazing. Tumble down the rabbit hole and explore an immersive forest of paper trees, see a cluster of cuckoo clocks and meet a family of tattooed mannequins. Then catch an illustrated sailboat and float away into a projected backdrop on this journey into Johanna’s imagination. You will also discover a monochrome menagerie of hand drawn Wonderbeasts, each suggested by one of over 150 co-creators from around the world.
Johanna Basford graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) in 2005 and lives in Aberdeenshire. Her distinctive illustrative style is widely recognised and can be found on a diverse range of products including wallpaper, beer bottles and even tattoos. During her exhibition, Johanna and DCA will be joining forces to create a publication showcasing the full range of her talents, as well as being a souvenir of her exhibition. Intrigued by this mysterious world ? Well, you’re lucky because Johanna’s first solo exhibition is a fact and you can admire her work at the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre (England) until July 7th 2013. dca.org.co.uk
