Rapper, musician and (now) tech-entrepreneur Will.i.am launches a marvel of green technology: the Ekocyle 3D-printer. Before that, we already saw the artist with an own smartwatch and camera case,. Now he has put his mind on a 3d-printer that transforms plastic waste into new objects. Talking about an amazing cradle-to-cradle initiative ! For those who scratch their heads while reading this, Will.i.am currently fills in the function of creative director at 3D Systems. Together with Coca-Cola (recognise the printer’s colors ? ) they’ve created this nifty and green gem.
With the Ekocycle Cube 3D it is possible to print objects 15 x 15 x 15 centimeters (that is somewhat 6x6x6 inch) in a resolution of 70 microns. Moreover, the cartridges that power the Ekocycle Cube 3D are made out of plastic, that is to say for almost 25 %. This means that each cartridge represents more or less 3 half-liter PET bottles. Nice !
In the promo movie Will.i.am is clear: “waste is not waste when we’re not squandering it. Message understood ! To make the message of the Ekocycle Cube 3D even more clear, Will.i.am show some twenty designs that this marvellous 3D printer is able to produce such as fashion-, music- and tech accessories to name a few. The Ekocycle Cube 3D should be available later this year for a price that is just under 1200 $ (that is somewhere in the regions of 880 €)
