After a 16-year hiatus, Porsche re-enters the Le Mans LMP1 race (France) with the Porsche 919 Hybrid. Porsche calls it the most advanced race car it’s ever built. Le Mans, being one of the most iconic racetracks ever, also requires to be on top of new regulations relating consumption and technology of today’s race cars. Therefore, the Porsche 919 uses a 2.0 litre turbocharged V4 gas engine combined with an electric motor.
The energy recovery systems collect excess energy from the exhaust gases and kinetic energy from braking and transfer that energy onto the electric motor. The Porsche 919 Hybrid has 500 horsepower with the engine powering the rear wheels while the electric drive system powers the front wheels in an alternating or collaborative way.
