The slow living trend is spreading fast nowadays. One can summarize it as the art of doing everything at the right pace, so they are done well and leads you to achieve durable results. Doing things this way creates a deep satisfaction of everything you do in and with your life. When you adapt this concept to you skin and its ageing, “slow” means then adapting the right rhythm to be beautiful and stay this for very long time.
No run towards “miracle” solutions…
Our outlook has fundamentally changed. We want to grow old well, not become younger. To prepare ourselves to this promising future, we also have to slow down. We have to slow down this silent, creeping ageing process which is caused by the damaging influences of our modern day environment. You don’t see its effects right now, but they will be there in time. We don’t focus anymore obsessively on immediate results, but look further, to preserve a healthy, good looking skin.
Skin and exposome, or how to slow down the ageing process.
The exposome is a scientific concept which was defined in 2005 and which is used to describe the connection between external environmental factors in its largest sense and human health and well being. It is defined as the evaluation of the accumulation of all environmental influences and the corresponding biological reactions throughout the lifespan of a human being. One takes into account the life environment, behavior and endogenous processes.
This holistic approach leads to new insights about health in general, but also about the skin. It is the protective organ which is directly exposed to the impact of the exposome, and this not only because of its role as a barrier against agressive influences like UV and pollution, but also because it is a reflection of internal stress factors like fatigue or anxiety and an unbalanced diet. As an expert in skin care and its involvement in the life of the modern woman, Vichy enters here for the first time this scientific domain.
Vichy has studied over 20 years the impact of environmental factors on the skin. The degree to which UV rays and more importantly the long UVA rays are affecting the quality of the skin, has been studied both from a biological and clinical point of view. In 2013 its influence was measured on a representative sample of 298 test persons. The results showed that exposure to Ultraviolet rays is responsible for up to 80 percent of skin ageing. Pigmentation, skin texture and wrinkles around the lips ar the most manifest consequences of UV exposure. Air pollution further acts as catalyst, and therefore is defined as photo-polution. Smoking, an unbalanced diet with too much sugar, salt or fats, stress have also shown to have a cumulative negative effect on your skin, as we pointed out earlier. So when you want to age well, watch what you eat, how you sleep and how much you move.
The answer of Vichy: a formula with three healthy ingredients, which slows down visible skin ageing.
Vichy’s new approach to skin ageing is possible with an active formula, for which Vichy has selected three ingredients: the antioxidant Baïcaline root, Bifidus from pro-biotics and last but not least mineralising water from Vichy. Carefully selected UVA and UVB filters are also included in the formula, which is delicious to the senses.
Let us take a closer look at the ingredients. The Baïcaline root is known since 2000 years in Chinese medicine as one of the 50 most important plants. Vichy has selected this plant for its excellent antioxidant properties.
Bifidus, a probiotic which is generated through the fermentation process by the Bifidobacterium Longum. Vichy uses this supercatalyst to improve the defensive barrier functions of the skin. The mineralised water of Vichy is strengthening by nature, through its 15 essential minerals. It comes from the heart of the French volcanoes and has a very rich and balanced mineral structure which brings the
skin back to balance, strengthens and repairs it, so it is able to better withstand the negative influences of the exposome. Furthermore, the slow Age formula contains Large spectrum UV filters with an SPF factor of 25, which protects against daily UV exposure. Vitamine C3, E and LHA are also added to repair visible skin defects which are already present and offer thus an anti-ageing function. Extra attention is given to a very sensuous structure.
A skin protective product designed for daily use has to be also pleasant to use by the modern woman. To compensate for the white aspect and fatty substance of the UV filters, Vichy has integrated into the formula specific waxes which enhance optimal absorption of the cream by the skin. Besides that, silicium has been added to give the skin that unique velvet touch. The texture is suprising and initially forms a drop. Once applied to the skin, it is immediately absorbed and gives a delicious velvety touch to the skin. There is no trace of “filter feeling”!
The smell and perfume is developed to express the volcanic power of the Vichy thermal water and to bring women back into contact with nature. This perfume, which stands for both freshness and the force of nature, is developed by perfume expert Philippe Romano. The refined Magnolia perfume is further enhanced with sublime fruity and aquatic accents. The woody base odor is enriched with soft musk, and is permeated with mineral odor notes which reflect the richness of Vichy water. This all combines in a radiating odor in a cream which is also ideal for a very sensitive skin.
