A chef who prepares the most delicious dishes with home kitchen equipment for private owners? It is a bold concept but it works. Bulthaup in Sint-Stevens-Woluwe offers high end luxury kitchens and is per se a restaurant in a magnificent and inviting Bulthaup showroom. Something truly different…
Who wants to discover Bulthaup kitchen equipment and materials can take the stairs to the first floor or stroll to the back end of the showroom, and take a look. Chests, drawers, working tables, the B2 outfits offer you inspiration to build your future kitchen. And believe it, even as trendwatchers we discovered unseen things like an enormous cutting board or a magnificent rack for your knives.
At noon or in the evening, guests flock in to spoil their palettes and taste buds with the delicious creations chef Pierre Godart magically prepares in his Bulthaup kitchen, placed on a podium amidst the showroom. When you might think that a home kitchen would be a handicap for a master chef, then you have not seen a Bulthaup kitchen before.
After a drink on the roomy and cozy first floor terrace, we walk down to sit at a elegant table in the middle of the restaurant, with a view on the open kitchen. Enjoy the show, as Pierre Godart works his way around as a true magician with pots and ingredients amidst the smoky kitchen fumes. Fortunately these stay at a safe distance, which cannot be said of many star restaurants even when you eat on the first floor.
And then the dishes: after a “Duet of Tuna with moonseed crust and duck liver” follows a “cod hook, beurre blanc, bordelaise and squirrel bread. Just succulent… Our big favorite is however the “Blanquette of calf and guinea fowl with a cream of cauliflower, peas, carrots and sage.” We finish with a trio of desserts, “raspberries with lemon cream”, “Gaspacho of Pineapple” and “Chocolate mousse with vanilla cream”.
It is all delicious and the portions are rather generous, but it comes at a price. One has to reckon with an average à la carte price for two courses, excluding drinks of fifty Euros. But you are treated to a spectacle, both in the kitchen and on your plate…
