It is easy to see why the beautifully sculpted Monarch chair by Eduardo García Campos is among the recently revealed winners for the 2012-2013 A’Design Award and Competition. The award-winning design makes reference to the wings of the Monarch butterfly and organic forms seen in Art Nouveau. The design plays on qualities of the butterfly, capturing elements like the delicate balance between fragility and strength. The form is crafted from a single piece of cast aluminum, a challenge that took the designer nearly three years of work with 3D modelling software, a sculptor and a metal engineer to achieve. But you have to admit: the result looks absolutely stunning.
