Geman based Stefan Strumbel is a street artist that quite some years ago started playing with the metaphor of ‘heimat’ which is German for ‘homeland’ and how his art should reflect it. Therefore he decided to stop painting graffiti and focused on cuckoo clocks instead.
Strumbel sat down and started thinking about his ‘heimat’ close to the Black Forest region. A thing that immediately popped to his mind where cuckoo clocks, typical for the region. Subsenquently, the talented artist began buying clocks from local stores and transforming them into street-art inspired pieces with spray paint. What started as a plaything are nowadays costly works of art. Strumbel’s vivid, exceptional cuckoo clocks are now sold at prestigious art galleries with a pricetag varying from $1,200 to $35,000 (or 850 to 25,000 euros) each. Niiiiiice !
