During its last edition earlier in September, the Belgian watch fair ‘Oro Tempo’ offered the opportunity to some small entrepreneurs to put themselves in the spotlight. The young Belgian designer Louise Kopij was one of them.
In her workshop in Liège, surrounded by a small team, she produces entirely by hand, her eccentric jewellery and her asymmetrical earrings, in particular. True image of the brand, these asymmetrical pairs are part of collections always thought and deepened. “With my asymmetrical earrings, I propose a difference in design, a personality, a signature”, Louise Kopij explains.
Always keeping the ingredients of the brand’s success: asymmetrical earrings in rare materials, built with respect for the realm of the living. The artist also provides symmetrical earrings for those who prefer it.
The collection ‘Einstein’s rings’ refers to an optical effect detected in space when a black hole deforms space and time around it and refracts the light from a distant galaxy in a rounded shape and a very elegant discontinuous line of golden light. The patterns of these jewels are strong primitive hand hammered discontinuous circles made out of grey blue oxidized silver with a touch of 24K gold onto it. A ray of light in the night just like those galactic objects, predicted by Einstein, after whom the collection is named.
The ‘Hystérie collective’ – Collective hysteria in its run is a very personal vision of feminine energy; a clever mix of the balance: femininity and masculinity. Incorporating a uterine shape within the jewel, porcupine picks as a phallic symbol, and modules inspired by the French artist Calder. “Hystérie collective” will seduce the rock n roll, original and expressive woman, who exploits all of her glamourous potential and who’s aware of her seduction power.
”With my ecological choices on precious materials and cruelty free feathers I propose a long- lasting design industry alternative and an echo into one’s soul”, Louise Kopij explains. “With my arty approach, I give sense to my work, while bringing beauty to the world. “
The jewels are either gold-filled either available in 925 silver, including semi-precious stones and elements of living in a respect of the life cycle of the animal (feathers, bison teeth, porcupine peaks).
Louise Kopij also produces haute couture pieces for fashion shoots.
